David Turner

Research Area

  • David Turner (M.Sc., P.Geo., Ph.D. Candidate) is using VIS-NIR hyperspectral imaging techniques to study rare earth element bearing minerals and their respective host rocks. Reflectance spectroscopy is being combined with traditional mineralogical techniques (such as optical microscopy, EMPA, SEM and XRD) in order to determine the origins of absorption features tied to the presence of REEs and their specific crystal hosts. Longer term goals include the application of the results to the mineral exploration and mining industries.
