Research
- Core characterization is key for a wide range of geological and engineering problems spanning ore grading and processibility, mine mapping and planning, exploration and delineation, and environmental issues associated with mine residue. Infrared spectroscopy providing measurement of reflected and emitted light (as a
function of wavelength) can be interpreted to derive mineralogical content information (mineral type and abundance) from specific molecular absorption features. Thus a new field of research is emerging to develop the automated characterization of rock cores from infrared
spectral imaging.
